Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Forum is deemed key to building Indonesia's resilience against future disaster threats, National Disaster Mitigation Agency's (BNPB's) Deputy for Prevention Prasinta Dewi stated.

In the agency's statement received here on Monday, Dewi remarked that the DRR Forum is a strategic pillar for enhancing coordination, improving capacity, and fostering a culture of disaster risk awareness within the community.

"The DRR Forum serves as the foundation for building the nation's resilience," she noted during a public hearing of the BNPB Chief's Draft Regulation on DRR in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province.

She pointed out that not all regions currently have a structured DRR Forum. Hence, the BNPB has encouraged the establishment of relevant regulations to ensure effective DRR management at the national and regional levels.

The BNPB expressed hope that the draft regulation would strengthen the forum's role in providing policy recommendations, advocacy, and innovation in disaster risk reduction efforts.

Disaster risk reduction efforts address hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, extreme weather, tornadoes, earthquakes, and forest and land fires.

Dewi emphasized that active participation of various stakeholders is essential for this regulation's success, adding that the public hearing provided a platform for inputs, criticism, and improvements to the draft regulation.

"Future potential disasters are becoming more complex due to climate change, environmental degradation, and urbanization. An adaptive, responsive, and collaborative forum is an absolute necessity," she stressed.

On the same occasion, BNPB Director of Preparedness Pangarso Suryotomo affirmed that while the DRR Forums already exist and operate in some regions, standardized guidelines remain lacking.

The public hearing gathered various important inputs to refine the draft regulation, including duties and functions, types of DRR Forums, funding, and so on.
