Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is already addressing several demands voiced by the Indonesian workforce during this year's International Workers' Day celebrations, according to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.

"In fact, we are currently working on several demands, including one related to layoff mitigation. Over the past few weeks, we have engaged in intensive discussions to determine which points need special attention," he remarked at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, on Thursday.

His remarks refer to a statement from the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), which lists workers' demands for this year's May Day, including the abolition of outsourcing, the creation of a layoff task force, and the realization of fair wages.

The workforce also seeks legislative measures, such as the passing of the Domestic Worker Protection Bill, the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and a new Employment Law.

Hadi assured the public that the government is committed to protecting citizens from the impact of job terminations by planning to establish a task force to expand job opportunities and mitigate potential layoffs.

He added that the task force would adopt a comprehensive approach to employment issues by taking into account the interests and voices of industries, businesses, and laborers.

The minister emphasized that the government would carefully study and respond to each of the key demands raised.

Earlier, on Wednesday (April 30), Hadi announced that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver a speech before hundreds of thousands of workers gathering at a May Day event at Monas on Thursday.

He highlighted that the president’s presence demonstrates the government’s appreciation for the contribution of Indonesian laborers in driving national economic growth.

“The president and the government regard workers as a key and integral part of our national economy. Therefore, President Prabowo sees it as essential for the government, employers, and workers to align their efforts,” he stated.
