"He provided updates on the current situation in Cambodia, as well as the progress of cooperation between our two countries. The relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia continues to grow closer and stronger," Maharani stated in a press conference after the meeting.
The House speaker highlighted that their discussions covered a range of collaborative areas, including defense and economic affairs, both of which have shown improvement.
She noted that economic cooperation between the two countries has grown significantly, with trade volume reaching nearly US$1 billion.
She stated that defense ties have become stronger, and Cambodia's development continues to progress.
On inter-parliamentary ties, Maharani highlighted both nations' shared commitment to increasing women's representation in parliamentary leadership.
“He was inspired to see Indonesia has a woman as House speaker. Cambodia also has a woman president of its National Assembly,” she remarked.
Maharani noted that the parliaments of Indonesia and Cambodia have agreed to support each other's governments in implementing national policies.
She highlighted that ties between Indonesia and Cambodia have been well-established for decades, dating back to President Soekarno's era.
Moreover, Maharani and Hun Sen discussed ASEAN solidarity amid ongoing global uncertainties.
“We discussed how to maintain stability in Southeast Asia through ASEAN solidarity, so that global turbulence does not adversely affect the region,” she stated.
However, she clarified that the bilateral meeting did not specifically address the issue of Indonesian migrant workers in Cambodia.
