Governor Pramono Anung, here on Wednesday, officially handed over free access cards to representatives from each of the 15 eligible groups at the Dukuh Atas Transport Hub in Central Jakarta.
"Today, I launched the free (public transportation) service initiative for 15 groups of residents," the governor stated.
He explained that free public transportation access will apply not only to bus rapid transit TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta but will also extend to the Transjabodetabek (Trans Greater Jakarta) network in the near future.
Anung also announced that the Jakarta Provincial Government is seeking to introduce five new Transjabodetabek routes.
"I have instructed the Head of the Transportation Office to immediately open five additional routes following the Alam Sutera–Blok M corridor, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public," he stated.
However, he clarified that there are currently no plans to increase the number of groups eligible for free mass transportation.
He emphasized that the main priority is managing the daily influx of around 3.5 million commuters entering Jakarta each morning, which contributes to traffic congestion and air pollution.
"We must address that issue. Thus, future expansion will not focus on increasing the number of eligible groups, but rather, on expanding TransJakarta's reach into a broader Transjabodetabek," he explained.
The 15 categories of residents currently eligible for free public transportation are:
- Civil servants and retirees of the Jakarta Provincial Government
- Contract workers employed by the Jakarta Provincial Government
- Students receiving the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP)
- Workers earning the provincial minimum wage via Bank DKI
- Residents of low-cost rental flats
- Members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) team
- Residents with ID cards from the Seribu Islands District
- Rice assistance recipients living in Greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi)
- Members of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri)
- Indonesian war veterans
- Persons with disabilities
