Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, is committed to increasing investment in Indonesia.

Hartarto made this statement during a meeting with the Chair of the Indonesia-Japan Committee in Keidanren, Kakinoki Masumi, on Thursday, as part of Hartarto's working visit to Tokyo.

"The meeting discussed the development of various forms of cooperation and potential and challenges faced by Japanese companies in investing and running their businesses in Indonesia," the minister noted in a statement on Friday.

The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and facilitating Japanese investment in Indonesia, especially amid global economic uncertainties.

"The Indonesian government is committed to continuing to maintain good relations with the Japanese government and to supporting the Japan Business Federation, which has contributed greatly to boosting investment in Indonesia," the minister remarked.

According to the same statement, Kakinoki congratulated Hartarto on receiving an award from the Emperor of Japan and expressed appreciation for Indonesia's contribution to bilateral cooperation.

He also voiced hope for continued support from the Indonesian government for Japanese companies already invested or planning to invest in Indonesia.

Keidanren also expressed support for Indonesia's efforts to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and is prepared to work alongside the Japanese government to strengthen Indonesia's position in both forums.

Japan is recorded as the sixth-largest foreign investor in Indonesia as of 2024, with an investment value reaching US$3.46 billion across 12,823 projects.

The top five provinces that received the largest investment from Japan are West Java, Jakarta, East Java, Central Sulawesi, and Central Java.
