Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions has highlighted its commitment to pursuing the target of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2030 through village fund allocation.

Deputy Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Ahmad Riza Patria said in Jakarta on Friday that the central government allocates around Rp400 million (approximately US$24,198) to Rp1 billion (around US$60,496) to each village.

"The village community, through village deliberations, discusses the use of the village fund," he informed.

He added that the fund provided to each village can be used for various purposes, such as health, including the handling of stunting and TB.

According to Patria, the initiative is part of an effort to improve the welfare of village communities so that they can be free from the disease.

As Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said, TB is a disease that is commonly found in underdeveloped countries, including in rural areas, he observed.

On the same occasion, Minister Sadikin underscored that globally, TB is targeted to be eliminated by 2030.

In line with this target, the Ministry of Health has undertaken a number of initiatives, such as participating in clinical trials of the TB vaccine, as well as promoting screening for disease prevention.

He explained that in Indonesia, the number of new TB cases per year is estimated at one million, with deaths pegged at 125 thousand.

Therefore, he expressed the hope that the public will participate in TB elimination efforts, starting by participating in screening for the disease.

His ministry is targeting to detect one million cases this year, so that those people can be treated immediately and do not transmit the disease to others.

Furthermore, he said, ensuring that the patients complete their treatment is also essential.
