Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has set up a task force to prevent acts of thuggery that are disrupting business and investment activities--not to target community organizations, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) head Hasan Nasbi has emphasized.

He said that thuggery by certain individuals and organizations is one of the major issues currently impeding business and investment activities in Indonesia.

“What the government aims to address and eliminate are acts of thuggery, whether committed by individuals or organizations, that is what the government is intending to get rid of,” he explained in response to reporters’ questions in Jakarta on Saturday.

“As of today, a special task force is currently being formed to address this issue,” he added.

Nasbi said that thuggery has become a serious concern for the government because it hinders investment and disrupts business operations.

“Investors are afraid to enter our market. People who want to do business here are afraid because of additional costs and burdens caused by thuggery actions. So, the problem lies in the thuggery itself,” he added.

During the same discussion, he noted that eradicating thuggery will take time, as such practices would not disappear as soon as perpetrators are dealt with by the authorities.

He said that the government also needs to find ways to prevent perpetrators from repeating their actions, while helping redirect their time and skills toward productive activities.

“Of course, it takes a process. After all, they are also sons of the Indonesian nation who need solutions, guidance, and direction toward more productive work. They are part of our human resources and can be nurtured and trained,” he added.

On May 6, 2025, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs established a Joint Task Force for the Operation to Combat Thuggery and Community Organization to address thuggery, which has raised public concern.
