The four Indonesian films are Sleep No More, directed by Edwin; Pangku, the first work of actor Reza Rahadian as a director; Levitating, directed by Cannes Film Festival award-winning filmmaker Wregas Bhanuteja; and The Fox King, a collaborative work between Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara and Malaysian producer Edmund Yeo.
Culture Minister Fadli Zon said that Indonesia is ready to participate in international film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival, the oldest such festival in the world.
"I believe that the presence of Indonesian films on the international stage is an effective means of cultural diplomacy in introducing Indonesian culture and identity," he added in a statement released on Monday.
To strengthen international cooperation in the field of cinema and increase the presence of Indonesian films on the global stage, he met with the artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera.
The meeting was also attended by award-winning film director, screenwriter, and producer Garin Nugroho.
According to Zon, the Indonesian government is ready to welcome opportunities for collaboration with the organizers of the Venice Film Festival, including Indonesia becoming a focus country in the Venice Bridge Financing Market in August 2025.
"The Ministry of Culture is ready to build long-term collaboration with the Venice Film Festival and open up opportunities for strategic cooperation to strengthen Indonesian cultural diplomacy through cinema," he added.
