Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has strongly condemned the Zionist forces for firing "warning shots" at a group of foreign diplomats in the West Bank, Palestine, describing the incident as a product of "years of impunity enjoyed by Israel."

The diplomats were shot at while they were on an official tour hosted by the Palestinian authorities to observe conditions in West Bank's Jenin city on Wednesday.

"This is yet another unacceptable display of complete disregard for international law by Israel -- an injustice Palestinians endured daily in their homeland," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday.

Indonesia urged the international community to step up pressure on Israel to compel it to comply with international laws.

Indonesia also pushed the global community to continue the struggle to force Israel to cease all hostilities toward Palestinians and end its illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.

During the incident, which amounted to a violation of international diplomatic norms, Israeli troops shot at a delegation that comprised 35 ambassadors, consuls, and diplomats, according to Ahmed Al-Deek, an assistant to the Palestinian foreign minister.

The "warning shots" were fired to intimidate the foreign diplomats as they approached the besieged Jenin refugee camp in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

Justifying the firing, Israeli forces claimed that the diplomats deviated from the pre-approved route in an active combat zone. They also "regretted the inconvenience caused" and promised to initiate direct communication with the diplomats.

The incident sparked uproar from the global community. The governments of France, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay, whose diplomats were in the delegation that was shot at, summoned their respective Israeli envoys for clarification.
