"I would like to reiterate Kazakhstan's commitment to strengthening economic ties with Indonesia. We are very keen to create environment that will direct investment in our collaboration," he said at the launch of the Salam Kazakhstan magazine in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Ambassador Abdykarimov, Kazakhstan and Indonesia share many characteristics and aspirations.
For instance, both countries have rich natural resources and are leaders in their respective regions -- Kazakhstan in Central Asia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia, he said.
"Since 1993, our countries have established strong diplomatic relations, and today, we have to strengthen this bond through increased economic cooperation," he added.
At the magazine launch, he invited investors from Indonesia to invest in Kazakhstan.
"Kazakhstan has the best investment climate in Central Asia. For the past three decades, our country has attracted gross inflow of FDI (foreign direct investment) of US$456 billion, the largest amount in Central Asia region," he pointed out.
In addition, he said, Kazakhstan is the largest and fastest-growing economy in the region. Its gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 was pegged at US$288 billion.
"Last year, our economic growth reached 4.8 percent, and we doubled our GDP target to US$450 billion for 2029," he informed.
Abdykarimov further emphasized that there is still significant untapped potential to further expand trade and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
He also highlighted the importance of diversifying trade relations and expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in sectors such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and tourism.
"In this regard, I'm happy that the working process on the draft of the bilateral investment treaty is coming to its end, and it could be signed soon," he said.
He expressed optimism that once completed, the free trade agreement (FTA) between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Indonesia would help boost economic cooperation between the two countries.
