Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the strength of Indonesia–France diplomatic ties, which have stood strong for 75 years, is rooted in robust political cooperation and mutual respect.

"Our bilateral ties are founded on strong and solid political cooperation, rooted in mutual respect and shared principles such as sovereignty, independence, human rights, and democracy," Prabowo said during a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and delegations from both countries at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday..

Prabowo warmly welcomed Macron's visit to Indonesia, as part of his Indo-Pacific tour.

In addition to marking 75 years of diplomatic relations, both nations also celebrated over a decade since establishing their strategic partnership.

Amid an evolving partnership, Prabowo drew attention to the huge potential for further collaboration between Indonesia and France across various sectors.

The head of state also expressed hope that close relations between the two nations would help to foster geopolitical stability amid global uncertainties.

"I welcome today’s meeting, given the current geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainties. France and Indonesia can contribute positively to regional and global stability," he stated, concluding his opening remarks.

The bilateral meeting followed a formal state welcoming ceremony and tête-à-tête, or face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.

Prabowo and Macron were also scheduled to deliver a joint statement on the outcomes of their discussions and witness the signing of several cooperation agreements.

The two leaders were also scheduled to attend a banquet dinner at the State Palace.

Prabowo will also accompany Macron on a visit to the Borobudur Temple and the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

Macron’s Indo-Pacific tour, taking place on May 27-29, includes stops in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore.
