Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia has urged Singapore to reject an appeal filed by corruption fugitive Paulus Tannos, who is seeking to suspend his detention through a Singaporean court.

Tannos is a suspect in a high-profile corruption case involving the procurement of electronic ID cards (e-KTP) in Indonesia and is resisting extradition.

"At the request of the Indonesian government, Singapore’s Attorney-General’s Chambers has been working to block Paulus Tannos' appeal," said Widodo, Director General of General Legal Administration at Indonesia's Ministry of Law, in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that Indonesia formally submitted an extradition request on February 20, followed by additional supporting information on April 23.

Tannos is currently being held in Singapore and is awaiting a committal hearing scheduled for June 23–25.

"Legal proceedings are still ongoing in Singapore," Widodo added.

On May 14, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas said the government is making progress on Tannos' extradition. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono has handed over all required documents to Singaporean authorities.

“Tannos' extradition is pending an upcoming trial. We have submitted all the necessary documents to the Foreign Minister, who then passed them to the Singaporean side,” Agtas said.

He expressed hope that Tannos, who has been on the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) wanted list since October 19, 2021, will soon be extradited to face charges in Indonesia.

Indonesia's National Police (Polri) had previously filed a provisional request with Singaporean authorities, which led to Tannos' arrest by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

On January 17, Singapore's Attorney-General confirmed his arrest as Indonesia proceeded with the extradition request.
