Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Hajj Supervisory Team from Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) recommended that the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji) establish a dedicated body to provide quality education and training activities for Hajj officers.

Team member Selly Andriany Gantina stated that this step is crucial to evaluate and address shortcomings observed during this year's Hajj pilgrimage, especially as the responsibility for organizing Hajj will shift from the Religious Affairs Ministry to BP Haji next year.

"This matter is of chief importance, particularly as the responsibility for organizing Hajj will be delegated to BP Haji in 2026. Therefore, there needs to be more stringent and professional service standards," she noted in a statement cited here on Tuesday.

Gantina noted that some Hajj officers failed to exert all-out efforts in serving Indonesian pilgrims this year.

"I saw on the field that many officers tended to take advantage of their position. Instead of focusing on serving pilgrims, they came to Saudi Arabia mainly to perform the pilgrimage themselves. This behavior conflicts with the critical nature of their duties," she emphasized.

The lawmaker attributed this unfavorable trend to inadequate training, pointing out that many officers only attended brief preparatory activities lasting three to five days without in-depth, practical knowledge.

She also drew attention to some Hajj officers who arrived in Saudi Arabia after the pilgrims.

Furthermore, Gantina stressed the importance of ensuring that all Hajj officers possess Arabic language proficiency, a thorough understanding of field operations, and a strong commitment to punctuality.

In addition to proposing a training body, the parliamentarian urged BP Haji to utilize digital technology to monitor and supervise officers’ performance in real time.

She stressed that ongoing improvements are vital, as the quality of Hajj officers directly impacts the safety and comfort of the pilgrims.
