Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that to date, the immigration crackdown in the United States has affected 58 Indonesian citizens.

“The number of Indonesian citizens affected by the new US immigration policy implemented since the beginning of this year has reached 58 people,” the ministry’s director for the protection of Indonesian citizens, Judha Nugraha, said during a media briefing on Thursday.

Of the 58 Indonesian nationals, six have been deported to Indonesia, he added.

Two of the six were arrested by the US authorities in an immigration sweep that has been ongoing since June 6, 2025, in Los Angeles, California.

They were identified as ESS, a 53-year-old woman who was living in the US illegally, and CT, a 48-year-old man with a history of drug violations who had entered the US illegally.

In response to the increase in legal and immigration cases affecting Indonesian nationals in the US, the Foreign Affairs Ministry is continuing to communicate intensively with its embassy in Washington, D.C., as well as consulates general in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and New York.

In addition to providing consular assistance to affected citizens, the Indonesian embassy and consulates will intensify the dissemination of information regarding the rights of Indonesian citizens in the US legal system.

"The Indonesian embassy and consulates will continue to provide assistance to ensure that these rights are fulfilled," Nugraha emphasized.

He also appealed to Indonesians planning to travel to the US to anticipate stricter immigration checks upon arrival and ensure they have the appropriate visas.
