Jakarta (ANTARA) - A senior Indonesian lawmaker has called on the government to expedite the evacuation of 360 Indonesian citizens from Iran, as the conflict between Tehran and Israel continues to escalate.

"The Indonesian embassy in Tehran must take immediate and precise actions. Every second is counted in such this critical situation," Syamsu Rizal, a member of the House of Representatives' Commission I, emphasized.

Rizal, who serves on the House' commission overseeing foreign, defense, security, and communication affairs, noted that several countries have evacuated their nationals from the conflict zone.

Most of the 360 Indonesians staying in Iran are concentrated in Tehran. To ensure the safety of all Indonesian evacuees, the Indonesian government must coordinate with several of Iran's neighboring countries.

With strong coordination between the Indonesian embassy in Tehran and Iran's neighbors, the evacuation of all Indonesians could proceed smoothly by both land and air, he remarked.

"The safety and security of every Indonesian national must be the state's top priority. May all Indonesians in Iran immediately return home safely," Rizal stated.

He called on the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) to play an active role in the evacuation as mandated by TNI Law No.3 of 2025 to protect Indonesian citizens abroad.

Rizal also called on all Indonesians in Iran to prepare necessary documents, bring only essential goods, and stay connected while following the embassy's instructions to ensure smooth evacuation.

The Iran-Israel war broke out and has continued to escalate since Tel Aviv launched surprise attacks on Tehran's nuclear sites and military facilities on Friday, June 13, 2025.

In response to Israel's attacks and killings of several Iranian top brass, Tehran launched its retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets on Friday evening local time.

IRNA quoted a senior Iranian military official, General Ahmad Vahidi, as saying that the retaliatory strikes, known as "Operation True Promise 3", would "continue for as long as necessary."

In response to the Israeli strikes on Iran, the Indonesian government condemned the action as it violated international law and undermined its very foundation.

Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization, the Nahdlatul Ulama, also condemned the attacks and urged the United Nations to take immediate and decisive action to de-escalate the conflict.
