The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 in Russia on Thursday (June 19). It marks a joint commitment to developing an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable sports ecosystem.
"Sports is a universal language that can serve as a bridge for friendship and global collaboration, especially in preparing a superior and competitive young generation," Ariotedjo said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The MoU outlines five key areas of cooperation: the development of young athletes, exchange of knowledge and training systems, increased international exposure for youth athletes, enhanced sports diplomacy in global forums, and the management of sustainable and inclusive training centers.
According to Ariotedjo, youth athlete development will focus on priority sports such as badminton, athletics, volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, archery, martial arts, and rock climbing. The exchange of sports personnel and training practices is expected to boost institutional capacity in both countries.
“Let’s make this partnership an investment in the future—not only to win medals but also to shape national character, strengthen solidarity, and increase global competitiveness,” Ariotedjo said.
The cooperation is also expected to broaden the two nations' diplomatic networks through sports and highlight cultural values on the international stage.
