“We urge Indonesians there to remain calm. The government is maintaining communication and providing updates on the condition of our citizens in Iran, and will continue with step-by-step evacuations,” said Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the parliamentary complex on Thursday.
He emphasized that the House leadership and Commission I are coordinating closely with the government to monitor the situation of Indonesians affected by the conflict.
Ahmad also called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to ensure that hotline services remain open and accessible for Indonesian nationals in case of emergency.
“We need to ensure that a hotline is available so communication with our citizens in Iran can be properly monitored,” he said.
Previously, he informed that DPR Commission I plans to meet with President Prabowo Subianto soon to discuss global developments, particularly the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
According to Ahmad, communication between the DPR and the government is essential to understand Indonesia’s stance on the Middle East situation. At the same time, he said, the parliament will offer input to the government.
He added that the DPR has already established contact with the President, although communication has not been intensive due to the President’s busy schedule.
“Nonetheless, we are closely monitoring the situation, and we know the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already issued a stance,” Ahmad concluded.
