Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry has expressed its support for cross-sector collaboration to develop digital talents for the subsea connectivity sector in Indonesia.

Head of the ministry’s Human Resources Development Agency Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto emphasized that Indonesia, as an archipelagic nation, needs to develop and govern undersea connectivity to ensure both domestic and global interconnectivity.

“The subsea connectivity ecosystem development in Indonesia is not just about building physical infrastructure, it is also about preparing the human resources,” Pudjianto explained at a press conference here on Thursday.

He said that the country will need more technical experts with specialized skills in submarine cable communication systems.

While demand for digital talent continues to grow, he pointed out that only a few universities in Indonesia currently offer curricula that are tailored to support the addition of human resources in the subsea connectivity sector.

To strengthen the subsea connectivity ecosystem, the ministry is supporting cross-sector collaboration between universities, industry players, and strategic partners.

The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Joint Initiative Statement for Subsea Connectivity Ecosystem Development in Indonesia.

The cross-sector partnership aims to bolster subsea technology development and enhance human resources through training programs, certifications, and the development of competency standards aligned with industry needs.

“This commitment reflects a strong spirit of cross-sectoral collaboration in support of Indonesia’s digital connectivity ecosystem. Digital transformation requires fast, broad, and reliable connectivity,” Pudjianto affirmed.

The initiative is a form of a shared vision launched by Telkom University and its partner institutions through the Subsea Ecosystem Development Program (SEDP), introduced at the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, in March.
