Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that the establishment of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Bali International Hospital is expected to accelerate Indonesia's health tourism development efforts.

She noted that the development of the Sanur SEZ and Bali International Hospital, both inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday, June 25, align with the health tourism development scheme.

As quoted in the ministry's statement here, on Thursday, Wardhana explained that the health tourism development scheme relies on healthcare facilities that have received registrations, certification, and accreditation from the Health Ministry, as well as international accreditation, to offer medical and wellness tourism services.

The Sanur SEZ, which covers an area of around 41.6 hectares, features a hospital, accommodation facilities, convention centers, and a recovery facility rooted in local culture.

Bali International Hospital has centers of excellence in cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastro-hepatology, orthopedics, medical examinations, fertility, stem cell and tissue banking, aesthetics, geriatrics, and alternative medicine.

The available service facilities are designed to provide a comprehensive patient experience, from initial treatment to recovery.

Wardhana highlighted the importance of collaboration in strengthening the tourism industry and advancing health tourism.

"We need to collaborate in strengthening supporting industries to foster a conducive business climate and develop the capacity and skills of the community, business actors, and wellness tourism supporting industries, so Indonesia can become a destination of choice in Southeast Asia," she explained.

Wardhana urged local governments to form collaborative business entities, such as a body or council, to coordinate the health tourism ecosystem in their respective regions and propose strategic policies to the central government.
