"President Prabowo has given a clear directive: our country must be present and be a pioneer in ensuring the people's health. The Health SEZ is a concrete answer for that challenge," he noted in an official statement cited here on Thursday.
During the inauguration of the Sanur Health SEZ and Bali International Hospital (BIH) in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday, Thohir affirmed that his ministry is currently preparing a strategic plan to replicate the Sanur Health SEZ model in other regions of Indonesia.
Furthermore, he noted that the ministry will involve SOEs in the health and pharmaceutical sectors and collaborate closely with relevant ministries and agencies to accelerate the establishment of Health SEZs in other regions.
The Ministry of SOEs will also optimize the role of the state-owned pharmaceutical holding under Bio Farma, as well as the state-owned hospital holding under Pertamina Bina Medika IHC.
This synergy will focus on strengthening international-standard health services, advancing medical research and innovation, and increasing public access to high-quality health services.
President Prabowo Subianto earlier emphasized that the Health SEZ is not only a solution to reduce people's reliance on health services abroad but also a means to realize equitable welfare and national self-sufficiency.
With the aim of attracting trillions of rupiah in investment and creating tens of thousands of jobs, the development of Health SEZs in various regions is expected to become a new driving force in national economic development based on health and medical tourism.
The Sanur Health SEZ houses the Bali International Hospital, which occupies an area of 67 thousand square meters. It has 255 beds, eight operating theaters, 38 ICU rooms, and four laboratories.
