As a result, the ministry recently approved the shipment of 98 tonnes of fishery products worth over Rp28 billion (approximately US$1.73 million) to the two countries, according to Ishartini, Head of the KKP's Quality Assurance Division.
Speaking on Saturday, Ishartini said the ministry continues to encourage local exporters to expand their markets, given that their products already comply with global quality assurance standards.
The shipment, which departed on June 24, met key international certification requirements, including the Processing Feasibility Certification (SKP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and the Certification of Quality Assurance and Safety of Fishery Products (SMKHP).
The export included 42.4 tonnes of frozen octopus, 10 tonnes of frozen squid, and 45.6 tonnes of pasteurized crab meat.
"This is our first step toward building a sustainable fisheries sector in eastern Indonesia. We hope it becomes a consistent source of high-quality exports," she stated.
Ishartini also noted that the fisheries sector contributed Rp25.45 trillion in foreign exchange earnings for Southeast Sulawesi between January and May 2025.
She emphasized that the KKP’s Quality Assurance Division remains committed to ensuring the quality and safety of Indonesia’s fishery products from production to distribution in line with international food safety standards.
