The PLTS facilities are located on Bulumanuk Island, Talango Tengah Island, Kalosot Island, Saseel Island, Talango Air Island, Saredeng Besar Island in Sepanjang Village, and Karamian Island in Karamian Village.
"With the operation of electricity in this archipelago region, the Electrification Ratio (RE) and the Electrified Village Ratio (RDB) in East Java have also increased," General Manager of PLN UID East Java Ahmad Mustaqir stated in Surabaya on Monday.
The Off-Grid Isolated PLTS on Bulumanuk Island has a capacity of 50 kilowatt peak (kWp); the Talango Tengah Island PLTS, 50 kWp; the Kalosot Island PLTS, 25 kWp; and the Saseel Island PLTS, 150 kWp.
Additionally, the Talango Air Island PLTS has a capacity of 50 kWp; the Saredeng Besar Island PLTS, 25 kWp; and the Karamian Island PLTS, 175 kWp.
"All of these PLTS have the potential to supply electricity to 1,373 customers in the area," Ahmad remarked.
He stated that electrification in these islands will help raise both the Electrification Ratio (RE) and the Electrified Village Ratio (RDB) in East Java.
Currently, the electrification ratio in East Java Province has reached 99.68 percent, while the electrification ratio in Sumenep District stands at 92.57 percent.
Furthermore, Ahmad explained that operating the PLTS is part of PLN's efforts to increase the renewable energy mix as the company moves toward Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060 and to accelerate 100 percent electrification in East Java through new and renewable energy (EBT).
"We hope to increase the productivity of residents in the remote, outermost, and frontier (3T) areas and encourage regional economic growth," he affirmed.
To show appreciation for PLN's electrification efforts, Head of the Community and Village Empowerment Service (DPMD) of Sumenep District, Anwar Syahroni Yusuf, expressed hope that the PLTS operations would enhance the productivity and economy of the island community.
"We hope the PLTS can be utilized optimally," Anwar stated.
