Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has revealed that in its second-best offer on reciprocal tariffs, Indonesia has sought US investment collaboration with Indonesian Investment Management Agency Danantara in critical minerals.

“Indonesia invites America, along with Danantara, to invest in the critical mineral ecosystem (in the country),” he said here on Monday.

The critical minerals include copper, nickel, and those needed for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, military equipment, and the electronics industry.

Furthermore, the investment will be a brownfield type, for example, with PT Freeport.

According to Hartarto, the US will find the investment offer quite attractive. However, he did not reveal further details, saying it is still being discussed behind closed doors and is covered by a non-disclosure agreement.

“For America, what Indonesia offers is quite interesting,” he added.

Earlier, the Indonesian government submitted its second-best offer on the reciprocal tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Ahead of the July 8, 2025, deadline for negotiations, Hartarto said that the Indonesian government has agreed to the requests submitted by the US government concerning both tariffs and trade barriers.

The minister has been communicating directly with the US Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, who, in principle, has agreed to accommodate a number of offers submitted by Indonesia.

However, the final decision on tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the US, which have involved repeated exchanges of documents, would not depend on one party.

This is because it would also take into account other countries that are also negotiating tariffs with the US.
