Jakarta (ANTARA) - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that Indonesia's export value in May 2025 reached US$24.61 billion, driven primarily by non-oil and gas commodities such as animal and vegetable fats and oils.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that oil and gas exports amounted to US$1.11 billion, declining by 21.71 percent, while non-oil and gas exports increased by 11.89 percent to US$23.50 billion.

"The year-on-year increase in export value in May 2025 was mainly driven by an increase in the value of non-oil and gas exports, namely in animal or vegetable fats and oils, which increased by 63.01 percent, with a contribution of 4.50 percent," she remarked.

In addition, the increase in exports was supported by iron and steel, which rose 27.58 percent, with a 2.70 percent contribution, as well as electrical machinery, equipment, and their parts, which rose by 45.11 percent, contributing 2.58 percent.

In May 2025, total non-oil and gas exports stood at US$23.50 billion. The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors contributed US$0.63 billion; mining and other sectors, US$3.11 billion; and the processing industry, US$19.76 billion.

The fisheries sector and the processing industry saw a year-on-year increase, while the mining sector experienced a decline.

The rise in non-oil and gas export value was mainly found in the processing industry, which increased by 20.40 percent and contributed 14.92 percent.

"This year-on-year increase was largely driven by higher export values of palm oil, non-ferrous base metals, jewelry and valuables, semiconductors and other electronic components, as well as agricultural-sourced organic basic chemicals," Ismartini elaborated.

From January to May 2025, the cumulative non-oil and gas export value reached US$111.98 billion, reflecting an increase of 6.98 percent compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, oil and gas exports totaled US$5.92 billion, down by 11.26 percent.

The top three export destinations for Indonesia during the January–May 2025 period were China, with exports valued at US$24.25 billion; the United States, with US$12.11 billion; and India, with US$7.28 billion.

Exports to these three countries accounted for 41.16 percent of Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports.
