Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has emphasized its commitment to eradicating all forms of violence against women and children at the National Consultation Forum for the Final Review of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan on the Elimination of Violence against Women.

“We convey our appreciation to the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), Australian Aid, the European Union, UNFPA, and UN Women for supporting this strategic forum,” Deputy for the Protection of Women’s Rights at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Desy Andriani said on Friday.

She noted that the forum is a part of joint efforts to review the achievements and final review report of the Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women (RPA on EVAW) 2016–2025.

It will also prepare recommendations for RPA 2026–2035 and provide inputs on the ASEAN disability inclusion guidelines.

“This step is necessary to align national and regional policies for the protection of women and children,” Andriani emphasized.

She then highlighted the challenge of addressing violence against women.

According to the 2024 National Women’s Life Experience Survey (SPHPN), one in five women have experienced domestic violence, and one in 10 have experienced violence by a partner.

Most cases of violence against women occur in the household environment, with perpetrators ranging from husbands and boyfriends to other family members.

Meanwhile, data from the 2024 SIMFONI PPA recorded 12,161 cases of violence against women involving 12,416 victims. The most common form of violence experienced by women was physical, followed by psychological, sexual, and other types of violence.

“To overcome these challenges, the ministry has formulated three priority programs, namely Ruang Bersama Indonesia, expanding the use of the SAPA 129 call center, and strengthening One Data for Women and Children Based on Villages/Sub-districts,” she informed.

The government is also playing an active role in international legal instruments such as CEDAW, the Beijing Platform for Action, and the 2030 SDG Agenda, which prioritize gender equality and protection of girls as global and national issues, she added.
