Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Seribu Islands District Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Jakarta, has said that it expects foreign exchange students to help promote the island to boost the number of international tourist arrivals.

The tourism office invited students awarded the Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship (IACS) by the Foreign Ministry this year to visit Seribu Islands to experience its tourism and culture.

“By presenting a positive experience, we expected them to understand our country, because through understanding, they can spread positive news about Indonesia, especially the Seribu Islands,” the region’s tourism and creative economy head, Sonti Pangaribuan, said in Seribu Islands’ Pramuka Island on Monday.

She added that under the program, the participants’ visit to Seribu Islands included a trip to the Onrust Island historical site and overnight stays on Pramuka and Sepa islands.

They also participated in mangrove planting, turtle releases, and coral transplants to ensure that their experience had a positive impact on the environment.

“We encouraged them to show their activities here through their social media,” she said.

The agency chief further said she expects the IACS participants to help promote the Seribu Islands and its positive features once they return to their home country.

“We hope they can introduce all about Indonesia, especially the Seribu Islands, which proves that Jakarta also has beautiful islands,” Pangaribuan added.

The Seribu Islands authority has reported a constant uptick in tourist visits during long holiday periods, such as the three-day Islamic New Year holiday period from June 27–29, 2025, when a total of 12,339 domestic and foreign tourists visited the area.
