Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Child Protection Empowerment and Population Control Office of the Jakarta government has reported an increase in cases of violence against children in the province.

Acting head of the Women and Child Protection Integrated Service Unit of Jakarta, Leni Yunengsih, attributed this increase to higher public awareness about reporting such cases and seeking assistance.

“Now, people are more aware of our presence, and they no longer hesitate to report,” Yunengsih said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Furthermore, teams of psychologists and advocates are providing support to victims of violence.

Based on data, the Jakarta Child Protection Empowerment and Population Control Office handled 2,041 cases of violence against children in 2024 and at least 1,113 cases in the period from January to July 2025.

The office is continuing to record cases and ensure that victims feel protected.

It is providing 24-hour psychological and legal support services for women and children experiencing violence. Residents can also report such cases round-the-clock on the +6281317617622 hotline and at 44 posts set up in Jakarta.

Yunengsih asked the community not to hesitate to file a report with the office so that assistance can be provided promptly.

According to the 2024 National Survey of Children and Adolescents’ Life Experiences (SNPHAR) of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, 50.78 percent of children aged 13–17 years in Indonesia have experienced violence throughout their lives.

The most dominant type of violence is emotional abuse, with 45 out of 100 children aged 13–17 years reporting experiencing it.
