Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has urged the public to actively support development programs in Jakarta to help transform it into a global city.

“We can develop Jakarta if all of the parties and the community work together to provide support to improve public welfare,” he said at a tasyakuran, or a collective thanks-giving meal, on Jakarta’s 498th anniversary at Sensori Park, Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Saturday.

He also expressed his gratitude for the community’s support for the 100-day work program, such as river dredging for flood management, the opening of 24-hour parks, diploma amnesty, and the preservation of Betawi culture, which ran well.

“Still remember when I first started working, the first task we carried out was to expedite the dredging of all the rivers, lakes, and reservoirs in Jakarta. If we had not done it immediately, the flooding would have definitely been worse,” he said.

To tackle flooding, Karno urged all neighborhood units (RTs), community units (RWs), village heads (lurah), sub-district heads (camat), and mayors to follow the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency’s daily rainfall updates.

He also praised the residents of Kamal village for supporting development programs in Jakarta, such as the dredging of the river near their neighborhood.

“Every development project requires time and sacrifice. Alhamdulillaah, the community supports these efforts to further develop Jakarta,” he said.
