Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s former president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has been hospitalized in Jakarta as he needs to rest after participating in various activities until last week.

Herman Khaeron, Secretary General of the Democratic Party – Yudhoyono’s party – stated that Indonesia’s 6th president is recovering during his treatment.

“Mr. SBY requires enough rest after a series of engagements, from the preparation and launch of the ‘Save our World’ song, the party retreat in Pacitan (that requires him) to travel by land, and speaking at events in Malaysia,” Khaeron, referring to Yudhoyono’s initialism SBY, told ANTARA on Sunday.

Yudhoyono is undergoing treatment at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Central Jakarta, he said, adding that he has resumed his painting hobby, albeit doing it with his left hand.

According to Khaeron, the former president, who observed the reactions to his illness in the mass media, expressed gratitude to colleagues and public members who have prayed for his wellness.

“We hope he can resume his normal activities soon,” the party official said.

The former president’s latest condition was revealed in images published on the late first lady Ani Yudhoyono’s Instagram @aniyudhoyono, on Saturday (July 19).

The former leader’s health condition was described by the post as “showing good progress while treatment went smoothly”. However, Yudhoyono’s illness or when he was admitted to the military hospital were not reported.

The post showed Yudhoyono resuming his activities from his hospital suite, including painting art, which he is known to be fond of.

“Though his right hand was still connected to an IV drip, his art spirit was far from waning. With his left hand, he gripped the paintbrush and drowned himself in colours, What a heartwarming moment,” as described by the Instagram post.

Commenting on the post, his son and top minister, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, expressed gratitude for heartwarming prayers and hopes for the former leader’s recovery.

"May Mr. SBY recover soon and all my friends here are always healthy,” the younger Yudhoyono remarked.
