Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) aims to start selling oil produced from community-run oil wells to companies such as Pertamina by August 1 this year.

"Hopefully, by August 1, we can monetize production from these community wells to Pertamina,” Deputy for Exploitation at SKK Migas, Taufan Marhaendrajana, stated during a presentation on the task force’s performance achievements in Jakarta on Monday.

Taufan estimates that production from these community wells could contribute an additional 10 thousand to 15 thousand barrels per day (bpd) to Indonesia’s national oil lifting.

However, he expressed hope that actual output would surpass these figures, drawing attention to the country's ongoing domestic oil production challenges.

Indonesia has set a national oil production target of 605 thousand bpd under the 2025 State Budget (APBN). For the longer term, the nation is working toward achieving one million bpd by 2029–2030.

To achieve that goal, Taufan stressed the importance of energy self-sufficiency and the potential value of community wells as state assets.

He noted that Pertamina, the state-owned company, has established internal procedures for managing these wells, covering not just oil purchases but also operational support and oversight.

“Verification is equally important,” he added.

Support for these efforts has been formalized through Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 14 of 2025, which promotes cooperation in managing working areas to boost oil and gas output.

The regulation enables Regionally-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), cooperatives, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in developing marginal wells, under the principles of safety, sustainability, and good governance.

“There are certainly challenges and unfinished business, but we believe they can be overcome,” Taufan concluded.
