“The Red and White Village Cooperatives will increase production as well as absorption of fish products,” he said in a statement released in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In line with this, he expressed optimism that the fish consumption index will increase, especially among the younger generation.
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is currently implementing the Red and White Fishers Village (KNMP) program in collaboration with the Red and White Village Cooperatives, who are serving as business managers.
“Strengthening the economy of fishers through the Red and White Village Cooperatives also means strengthening the health of Indonesian children,” he said.
Furthermore, he added, through the KNMP, his ministry will build frozen warehouses, ice factories, refrigerated vehicles, coolboxes, post-harvest facilities, and fish food centers in fishers’ villages and aquaculture villages.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto expressed the hope that the newly launched Red and White Village Cooperatives will support the distribution of fish catches to villages nationwide to boost protein intake, especially among children and pregnant women.
To ease the task, the government is planning to equip each village cooperative with two operational vehicles that can be used to distribute staple goods to villages.
He informed that each village cooperative will receive two vehicles, namely a truck and a pickup truck.
“I hope our fish catches can reach all villages in Indonesia to improve protein intake,” Prabowo said at the inauguration of 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives in Klaten, Central Java, on Monday.
