"Under the strategic guidance of our Presidents, China-Indonesia defence relations are strengthening, setting an example for military cooperation between China and other ASEAN countries and contributing to regional security and stability," Xu said here on Tuesday.
Speaking at an event marking the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Xu emphasized that China–Indonesia military cooperation is long-standing and covers multiple sectors.
At the political level, he noted, both countries have established the bilateral foreign and defence ministers' "2+2" dialogue mechanism, which held its inaugural meeting last year.
Security has also been designated the “fifth pillar” of bilateral cooperation, complementing the existing pillars of political, economic, people-to-people, and maritime collaboration.
Xu also highlighted the success of the “Heping Garuda” joint military exercise as a key example of high-level military engagement between the two countries.
He expressed optimism that defence cooperation will continue to support broader bilateral efforts to foster peace and stability in the region and beyond.
“I extend our deepest gratitude and highest respect to all friends who have long supported the development of the PLA and China–Indonesia military relations,” Xu stated.
Also speaking at the event, Indonesian Defence University (Unhan) Rector Dr. Anton Nugroho underscored the strategic role of Indonesia–China military cooperation in contributing to global peace. He noted particular potential for enhancing collaboration in areas such as military education and defence diplomacy.
