Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's China Committee (KIKT), Jona Widhagdo Putri said during a forum held in Jakarta on Thursday that this was one effort to leverage the power of customs trust between the two countries.
"The AEO scheme is more than just a mechanism to facilitate trade. It is a trust-based system that accelerates safe, predictable, and competitive trade flows," Putri said in her remarks.
She added that KIKT serves as a bridge that translates policy into performance, one of which is by facilitating the dissemination of information.
"We are collaborating with the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), and Indonesian Customs to raise awareness and understanding of the benefits of AEOs," she said.
Executive Vice Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, Liu Cheng, stated that AEO is an international system endorsed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and implemented by customs authorities in various countries.
"The idea is to certify companies (manufacturers, importers, exporters, customs brokers, carriers, and warehouses) that meet certain safety standards and management requirements. These companies are then granted streamlined customs clearance and appropriate preferential treatment," Liu explained.
He emphasized that obtaining AEO certification is one of the key strategies for businesses to facilitate trade, enhance competitiveness, and gain recognition for their compliance and risk management.
Liu also underlined the importance of further collaboration between Indonesia and China to promote AEO education among businesses from both countries.
"Going forward, our association will continue organizing such exchange activities and work to establish and improve an AEO certification assistance mechanism," he said.
"This includes helping more member companies understand AEO policies, strengthen certification capabilities, and seize development opportunities through specialized training, personal counseling, and other initiatives," he added.
