Jakarta (ANTARA) - Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the Investment Management Agency, Danantara, is exploring collaboration with the US government-owned development finance institution, the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), for investment in the critical minerals sector.

"Furthermore, Danantara has also been in discussions with the Development Finance Corporation to finance ecosystem investments in the critical minerals sector. This means Indonesia is open to investment because we welcome investment from anywhere, including the United States," Hartarto remarked during the Indonesia-US Joint Statement press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

He stated that the cooperation initiative with the US aligns with Indonesia's vision of openness to global partners, as reflected in its collaboration with the European Union through French companies, such as Eramet.

"It was also what the EU requested yesterday that it also gain access through companies owned by the French government, such as Eramet. It is similar to what America does with Freeport," he explained.

Concrete steps toward that collaboration were demonstrated through a meeting between Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani and DFC Chief of Staff and Head of Investments Conor Coleman at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on May 14.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed sustainable funding opportunities for priority Indonesian projects, particularly in the energy transition and digital transformation sectors.

Danantara expressed its commitment to strengthening the investment ecosystem that supports the transformation of the energy and digital sectors. That collaboration is expected to accelerate Indonesia's access to impact-based international funding while accelerating the transition to an inclusive and sustainable economy.

"We see Indonesia as having great potential in developing a green and digital economy. A solid partnership will open wider opportunities for innovative financing schemes that have a direct impact on sustainable development," Coleman remarked.

Furthermore, on May 5, Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir also met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on the sidelines of the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles.

During the meeting, both parties expressed confidence that Indonesia-US relations could be further strengthened through increased investment in strategic sectors, including energy security, upstream and downstream energy, and digital infrastructure.
