Speaking at the Green Impact Festival 2025 in Jakarta on Thursday night (July 24), he urged like-minded young people to contribute to the PLTSa agenda by sorting waste they produce at home.
“It should be noted that PLTSa requires waste from your homes as its fuel. Hence, I want you to contribute to this movement by sorting the waste, which is not easy,” Gibran remarked.
The vice president then recalled his term as mayor of Solo, Central Java, noting the difficulties he faced in encouraging residents to sort their waste independently, as some found it cumbersome.
However, he expressed confidence that Indonesian youths share his enthusiasm for improving waste management through sorting.
“Young people can educate their parents about the benefits of sorting waste for PLTSa,” he stated.
In his speech, Gibran also spotlighted several environmental preservation communities initiated by youths, such as the Pandawara Group, Zero Waste Indonesia, Society of Renewable Energy, and Trash 2 Move.
He highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto once invited members of the Pandawara Group to the Presidential Palace, where they exchanged views on revitalizing rivers or beaches heavily contaminated by waste.
“I am convinced that this event will lead to the emergence of new groups similar to Pandawara,” he stated.
Furthermore, he assured the public that President Prabowo is committed to providing space for young talents to create innovations, including those that benefit environmental protection.
He also expressed interest in considering studies presented in papers at the festival.
“Please, send me the papers. We will study them to determine which areas the government can take collaborative actions,” he remarked.
