“The government has a large target for mangrove rehabilitation. Through this institutional investment map, we will offer plots totaling approximately 6.25 hectares to the public,” director of mangrove rehabilitation at the ministry, Ristianto Pribadi, said.
He made the statement during a media briefing on strategy, targets, achievements, and challenges in Indonesian mangrove rehabilitation, held in Jakarta on Thursday.
The road map will cover corporate social responsibility (CSR) and investment partnerships for mangrove rehabilitation.
“This public involvement can take the form of CSR, international cooperation, including the development of blended finance schemes,” he said.

The ministry will conduct a campaign to disseminate the investment policy and institutional road map for mangrove rehabilitation to gain public trust and involvement in mangrove rehabilitation.
“The public will only be interested when they have trust in the government. This trust in the government must be built through a program called a public campaign. This public campaign, which we have prepared, includes the aforementioned maps, including the regulatory aspects, and the institutional framework for implementation,” he said.
That effort is being undertaken considering the limited allocation of the state budget for mangrove rehabilitation.
“The state budget continues to decline, with only 100 hectares available for the 2025 fiscal year, so the state budget can no longer be relied upon to achieve the mangrove rehabilitation target,” he informed.
The existing mangrove ecosystem in Indonesia covers 3,440,464 hectares. According to the ministry, 769,824 hectares of mangroves have the potential to be rehabilitated.
“Of the 769 thousand hectares, 561 thousand hectares are fishponds, or more than 70 percent,” Pribadi said.
