Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is collaborating with the UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN) to support sustainable business innovation through the 2025 SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals (SDGI) competition.

The best group of innovators at the competition will get the opportunity to present their innovation in New York.

“Together with IGCN, we encourage every innovation made by our young innovators. We hope this will serve as a platform to motivate others to create innovations that support sustainable development,” BRIN’s director of research and innovation partnerships, Asep Riswoko, said here on Thursday.

He emphasized that one of the most important competition criteria is how the proposed idea can strengthen existing BRIN research outcomes using a scientific approach.

“Since we are talking about innovation, we also need to speak scientifically. When it comes to innovation, we provide scientific support. The expectation is not only to produce design thinking or circularity, but also to strengthen the weight of the innovation itself,” he explained.

He further said that the innovation can be supported by research that has been completed by BRIN’s partner companies.

Meanwhile, executive director of the UN Global Compact Network Indonesia, Josephine Satyono, said that the program aims to strengthen the private sector’s role in driving sustainable development.

However, she noted that Indonesia is still facing challenges, especially in strengthening and collaborating on a multi-stakeholder innovation ecosystem.

“I think our main challenge here is how the government, together with businesses, can develop an ecosystem to promote innovation everywhere, because innovation is a necessity. In today’s global world, without innovation, we cannot compete,” she said.
