Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that 80 percent of attendees at Indonesia’s 80th Independence anniversary event at Jakarta’s Presidential Palace on August 17 be members of the general public.

Therefore, 80 percent of the total 8 thousand invitations for the Independence Proclamation Ceremony at the palace will be set aside for members of the general public, Deputy Minister of State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, said at the Presidential Office here on Friday.

“We will reduce the number of officials and increase the allocation for the general public. Eighty percent will be allocated for the public, demonstrating that the 80th Independence Day commemoration is truly inclusive,” he informed.

Registrations for the Independence ceremony at the Palace can be done online via the Pandang Istana application, which will be open to the public starting August 4, 2025.

According to Ardiantoro, the morning ceremony will include a cultural performance showcasing the richness of the national motto “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity), as well as the Pesta Rakyat (People’s Festival), which will be hosted in the Palace’s courtyard for the first time.

Prabowo, he informed, will provide a variety of free foods and beverages for the attendees, with dishes prepared by street vendors from the area surrounding the Palace and the National Monument (Monas).

“After the morning ceremony, the Pesta Rakyat will take place along with a variety of food and beverages,” he said.

The government will also organize an all-day Pesta Rakyat Sehari Semalam (One Day and One Night People’s Festival) at Monas on August 17, 2025, for those unable to attend the ceremony at the palace.

The festivities at Monas will include fun games, entertainment stages, free culinary treats from local small businesses, fireworks displays, and the Karnaval Kemerdekaan (Independence Carnival).
