Jakarta (ANTARA) - Making a case for the improvement of school health units (UKS), Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti said here on Monday that properly functioning UKS can support the free health checkup (CKG) program.

He said that the UKS upgrade is part of the education institution revitalization initiative, which is included in the government’s Quick Win programs.

“Schools need to have UKS, right, and it’s part of our program in the ministry. So today, we are also seeing the health unit facility in this school. Alhamdulillah, it’s (good, hence it) supports CKG,” he added after reviewing the health check program at Cideng 2 Elementary School.

He said that his ministry is committed to equipping the units with facilities such as beds, scales for height and weight measurements, first aid kits, and thermometers, so that they can promptly respond to health issues faced by students during school hours.

The ministry is also aiming to create a healthy school environment gradually, as per President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

A proper UKS is also vital to educate students about good nutrition intake, a healthy lifestyle, and growth and development.

He said he expects the synergy between the CKG and education institution revitalization initiatives, particularly in terms of UKS improvement, to support the growth of students, both physically, mentally, emotionally, and intellectually.

At least 16 million people have participated in the free health check program as of August 1, 2025. The program was launched on February 10.

The government is aiming to reach 281 million Indonesians through the program, including 53.8 million students across 282 thousand education units, ranging from elementary to high schools, madrasas, and People’s Schools.

The program for elementary students has 13 screenings, including checks for nutrition status, blood pressure, physical fitness, dental health, and mental health.

For middle school students, it offers 15 types of screenings, including for thalassemia and hemoglobin levels. Meanwhile, it offers 14 screenings for high schoolers, including reproductive health.
