“Our direction in the food sector has been quite successful. The reserves now held by the government are the largest in history. Farmers’ exchange value has increased, and later, the ministers will each report (achievements). This is just the opening (beginning),” he informed while addressing a plenary Cabinet session here on Wednesday.
He said that the government’s strategies are headed in the right direction, stressing that a country’s ability to produce food is crucial for safeguarding its sovereignty.
“Our nation is always ‘disturbed through food.’ If another nation wants to sabotage us, they will target our food. Thank God, with fast actions and with a smooth transition between President Joko Widodo and myself, we are now in a position where our food production is, I can say, in a safe and strong condition,” he said.
For this reason, he praised the performance of the ministers in his Cabinet, who have worked hard to realize the food resilience goal and implement programs to achieve food self-sufficiency.
“Thank you to all parties who have made this happen. This is also the result of cooperation, teamwork. The Minister of Agriculture was assisted by other ministers, supported by the Minister of Finance, aided by the military and police, as well as the Attorney General’s Office,” he noted.
President Prabowo led the plenary session at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
It was the eighth Cabinet session under Prabowo and Vice President Gibran since they officially took office on October 20, 2024.
