Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) - Finance Ministry's Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) Regional Office, Bangka Belitung Islands, said Bangka Selatan has potential to become a major rice and vegetable supplier for the Nutritious Free Meal (MBG) Program on Bangka Island.

"Currently, the total rice field area in Bangka Selatan covers 13 thousand hectares, and it has the potential to become the main rice producer for the MBG Program on Bangka Island," Head of the DJPb Regional Office for Bangka Belitung, Syukriah HG, stated in Pangkalpinang on Thursday.

She explained that of the total 13 thousand hectares of rice fields in Bangka Selatan, eight thousand hectares have already been planted with rice, with harvest expected by the end of August this year. This is expected to help strengthen the local rice stock.

“Bangka Selatan not only has the potential to be a key rice producer but also possesses abundant marine resources, making it a major supplier of seafood,” she highlighted.

She emphasized that with strong potential in both agricultural and marine products, Bangka Selatan can leverage these resources to serve as a raw material supplier for the MBG Program.

“Bangka Selatan can become a model area for the MBG Program by preparing villages to serve as producers based on their local potential,” she stated.

She also noted that implementation of the MBG Program still requires further coordination between the central and regional governments.

The Bangka Selatan District Government is seeking clearer guidance to accelerate the development of MBG producers to support sustainable economic growth.

"We recommend that Bangka Selatan serve as a rice and commodity producer for the MBG Program, which could help maximize the marketing of local agricultural products and improve the welfare of farmers in the area," she concluded.
