"I see this policy as offering more definite hope to low-income families. In my view, it is a good policy and deserves appreciation. The government is still formulating the policy, which will later be implemented," Trubus remarked when contacted in Jakarta on Friday.
He noted that low-income families have long struggled to access affordable and livable housing.
The housing KUR scheme offers government-backed assurance for MBR in the housing sector.
In addition, the scheme is expected to encourage housing developers to commit to providing quality housing for MBR as part of the Three Million Houses Program.
"In my opinion, the housing KUR program should be expanded to various regions across Indonesia, as the demand for housing among low-income communities continues to rise," Trubus remarked.

He also suggested that the government prepare a bailout fund or contingency plan to anticipate potential non-performing loans (NPL), given that most MBR work in the informal sector with irregular income.
"What matters is the responsibility of MBR in repaying their loans. Because their jobs are mostly informal and income uncertain, the government needs to have a bailout fund to anticipate situations when they can no longer afford mortgage payments," he explained.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Fahri Hamzah said that regulations related to the housing KUR scheme will soon be announced following a decision by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Fahri further noted that the government is accelerating efforts to expand the KUR scheme to the housing sector. This acceleration is aimed at stimulating the economy, including creating jobs.
The implementation of the housing KUR is supported by various stakeholders, including Danantara and several state-owned enterprises, under the coordination of Airlangga Hartarto, the coordinating minister for economic affairs, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.
