Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq confirmed that the Adipura Award assessment will not be merely symbolic but will also drive transformation in waste management from upstream to downstream levels in districts and cities.

"Even if a city is kept clean just to meet the Adipura assessment, but we find that household waste management is not proper, then it will be impossible for that city to receive the Adipura Award," Nurofiq stated here on Saturday.

He noted that currently, some districts and cities in Indonesia are still categorized as Dirty Cities, with a score of 40. Meanwhile, to qualify for the Adipura Award, they must achieve at least 75 points.

Minister Nurofiq made the remarks during a working visit in conjunction with Car Free Day (CFD) activities, the inauguration of the Langit Biru (Blue Sky) Task Force, and the launch of the "Bring Back Our Blue Sky" Movement in Tangerang City.

He remarked that districts and cities have until December 2025 to make improvements, particularly in waste management governance.

"For Tangerang City, which is currently in the process, please make the necessary improvements. There is still time. We also provide monthly evaluations to districts and cities," he added.

Nurofiq explained that this year, the ministry will not only present the Adipura Award as recognition for cleanliness but will also issue "Dirty City" labels to underperforming regions.

"I see there has been progress in how districts and cities manage their final waste processing sites, especially in the management of leachate water, which needs to be regulated so it does not leak. However, we will monitor their consistency," Nurofiq stated.

Meanwhile, Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin said his side has issued a circular banning the open burning of waste.

"The task force will monitor and take action against the practice of waste burning, which can produce emissions harmful to health and the environment," he stated.
