Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Bakrie stated that Peru hopes Indonesia can become a certification center and hub for the Latin America halal industry, especially Peru, so it can expand in Asian markets.

"They want Indonesia to become a center for certifying halal products and promoting it," Bakrie said in Jakarta on Monday.

Bakrie explained that Peruvian President Dina Boluarte has requested that Indonesia provided halal certification. Peru will reportedly send various products to obtain halal certification and participate in the socialization process.

According to him, Kadin plays a significant and strategic role in realizing Peru's aspirations.

Bakrie added that his office has collaborated with the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) on certification, training, and collaboration.

"They have many products they want to send for halal certification. We can become a hub for the Latin America halal industry in ASEAN," he noted.

Furthermore, Bakrie said, Indonesia and Peru also discussed cooperation in the fisheries sector, particularly aquaculture, or fish farming, which is an important part of Indonesia’s economy.

He said that he hopes that Indonesia and Peru can exchange technology in the development of fish farming, thereby further advancing the national fisheries industry.

"This is a sign that the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the government are always working together to ensure that not only diplomacy is successful, but its implementation is also moving forward," Bakrie added.

Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia's commitment to strengthening cooperative relations with Peru, in line with this year’s 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his remarks at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo stated that the presence of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra at the palace marked an important milestone in diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Peru, which will be commemorated on August 12.
