Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar said today that her office has not provided financial support for the animated movie Merah Putih: One For All, currently under the public spotlight for its perceived underwhelming quality.

"We do not provide financial support or promotional facilities," she stated on her Instagram account @irene_umar, as cited in Jakarta on Monday.

Nevertheless, she confirmed that she had met with the production team of the controversial movie, which centers on Indonesia's Independence Day as its main theme.

"The other day, I did meet with the production team, during which I conveyed technical input regarding the plot, characters, visuals, trailer, and other aspects," Umar said.

The deputy minister emphasized that such meetings are nothing new for her, noting that she often provides constructive, experience-based feedback to filmmakers.

While implying awareness about the wave of online criticism toward the film, Umar expressed her appreciation for the production team and congratulated it for securing a cinema release.

She stressed that all players in the creative economy sector have the right to showcase their work and contribute to society. "I would like to thank those who share the determination to advance our animation and film industry. I truly appreciate it," Umar said.

Merah Putih: One For All is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on August 14. The animated movie follows a group of children chosen by their village to safeguard the Red and White flag ahead of Indonesia's Independence Day commemoration.

However, a conflict begins when the flag goes missing, prompting the children to embark on an adventurous search.

However, the film has drawn negative comments, mostly on social media, following the release of its trailer. Indonesian netizens criticized its animation quality and storyline, with some even calling it an insult to the national film industry and contrasting it unfavorably to the recent hit Jumbo.
