Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani extended her congratulations to Lee Jae-myung as the new President of South Korea.

On Thursday, Maharani received the delegation of the Special Envoy of the President of South Korea, which included Cho Jeong-sik, Seo Young-kyo, and Lee Jae-gang.

"I hope that under his leadership, the Republic of Korea will continue to progress and that its advancements will have a positive impact on stability in the East Asian region," she remarked.

She expressed hope that President Lee Jae-myung would further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea in ways that benefit the people of both countries.

"The visit of you all, as Special Envoys of the President of Korea, reflects the new Korean government’s commitment to continually develop good relations between Indonesia and Korea," she remarked.

According to the House speaker, Indonesia and Korea share common values as nations that uphold democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

In a global situation filled with uncertainty, she said, both countries need to continue strengthening cooperation to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

She noted that Indonesia and Korea share aspirations as middle-power countries. She suggested that collaboration could be pursued through MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia) to bridge the differing positions of major global powers.

"In addition, through ASEAN+3 (Korea, Japan, China), Indonesia and Korea can work together to promote development in Southeast Asia and East Asia," she remarked.

Maharani also conveyed her greetings to President Lee Jae-myung through the envoys. She expressed optimism that their brief discussion would provide valuable insights into the latest developments in bilateral relations.
