Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has said young farmers are central to achieving national food self-sufficiency and driving the downstream development of the agriculture sector.

"To achieve this, the role of young farmers is crucial," Sulaiman told a gathering of Millennial Farmer Champions in Jakarta on Thursday.

During the meeting, Sulaiman held an open dialogue with young farmers from across the country, encouraging them to share their experiences and business achievements.

He highlighted agriculture as Indonesia's comparative advantage and a key driver of national transformation.

"What can change this republic is the agricultural sector," he said.

One participant revealed an annual business turnover of 10 billion rupiah (USD615 thousand), drawing applause and underlining the potential of youth-led farming ventures.

Sulaiman urged young farmers to embrace hard work, resilience, and collaboration, stressing that focus and consistency are vital to success.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono echoed the message, calling on youth to adopt a "warrior entrepreneur" mindset and use their success to build the nation and improve community welfare.
