Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted that the government had decided to focus the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) on eight primary areas, including food and energy security and investment facilities.

He outlined next year's budget outlook in his address on the 2026 State Budget Bill and its Financial Notes in the Nusantara Building of the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.

Prabowo explained that the 2026 State Budget would mostly be allocated for initiatives to advance or strengthen food security, energy security, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, education, health, the people’s economy, national defense posture, and the investment climate.

Prabowo detailed that Rp757.8 trillion (approx. US$46.8 billion) would be allocated to enhance educational services, while Rp402.4 trillion (US$24.8 billion) would support stronger energy security.

Meanwhile, Rp335 trillion (US$20.7 billion) is planned for the MBG program, Rp224 trillion (US$13.8 billion) for improving medical services, and Rp164.4 trillion (US$10.1 billion) for food security strategies.

According to the document of the 2026 RAPBN and Financial Notes, the eight key areas are described as medium-term strategies to strengthen Indonesia’s food, energy, and economic resilience.

For food security, the government will develop vital agricultural infrastructure, modernize farming equipment, expand access to affordable fertilizers, and boost national food reserves.

For energy security, it will promote eco-friendly fuels and clean energy, increase oil and gas lifting by revitalizing idle wells and optimizing active wells with modern technology, attract investment, and provide energy subsidies.

To improve education access and quality, the Rp757.8 trillion budget will fund the Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) free education program, the Garuda Schools program, school rejuvenation, and scholarships for students and educators.

In health, funds will support the Free Health Checks program, expand and upgrade medical facilities nationwide, renovate hospitals, and finance healthcare subsidies.

On boosting the people’s economy, Prabowo referred to optimizing the budget to improve living standards through steps such as advancing the Red and White Village Cooperatives and empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises.

Additionally, the budget will modernize Indonesia’s weaponry and defense equipment, including by strengthening the capacity of the national defense industry, and provide fiscal incentives and tax facilities to improve the investment climate.
