"We are re-instilling patriotism in our children, of course, by using methods that also align with the principles of learning," Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti said in Jakarta on Saturday.
He acknowledged signs of declining nationalism among young people, saying education must not only provide knowledge but also experiences that foster pride in being Indonesian.
The new learning model, he explained, will emphasize applying values in daily life, encouraging students to not just understand concepts but also appreciate their meaning and relevance.
"A curriculum that emphasizes experiences and instilling noble values will be an inseparable part of future learning," he remarked.
As part of this effort, scouting has been made a mandatory extracurricular activity in schools to promote patriotism and character building.
Earlier, Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) Steering Committee Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri also stressed the importance of strengthening nationalism and understanding the state ideology among youth, expressing concern that many lack knowledge of Indonesia's history.
