Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebration at Taman Asuh Sayang Anak (Tamasya) in Jakarta, on Tuesday, he said that it's important to teach children about national and patriotic values such as the red and white flag, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Pancasila, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, from an early age.
"This is part of early childhood education, where the sense of belonging to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) starts young. Children must be taught national and patriotic songs because we must be proud to be part of NKRI," he added.
Besides introducing the values of the nation’s struggle through creative activities for children, the event also served as a reminder to parents to adopt parenting styles that support early childhood development stimulation.
Wihaji also stressed the importance of limiting and regulating gadget use to avoid negative behaviors such as addiction.
“Be careful when using phones or gadgets because if not careful, they tend to have negative effects. Usage needs to be controlled or limited,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rina Jayani, Chairperson of the Aluna Montessori Inclusive School Foundation, emphasized the importance of recognizing each child’s potential, noting that every child is a star that shines at different times.
“Besides development, a child’s potential is equally important. Every child has potential, even if it is not always reflected in numbers and grades. Parents’ duty is not to compare, but to nurture with love and patience,” she said.
As part of the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN’s support for children’s development and potential, Wihaji also presented Educational Play Equipment (APE) Kits to Daycare Centers (TPA) and inclusive schools attending the event.
